Rose quartz, sometimes also referred to as “bohemian ruby,” “hyaline quartz,” “pink quartz” or the “love stone,” is a pink variety of quartz crystal that is commonly found in Brazil and Madagascar. It is a silicon dioxide crystal and one of the more common types of quartz. Its color may range from pale to strong, with the stronger colored specimens demanding a higher price on the market (although pale and stronger colored specimens are considered to be equally valuable for metaphysical purposes). It exhibits a Moh's scale hardness of 7, a vitreous luster, and is translucent. It is usually found in massive form as opposed to obvious crystal shape. Rose quartz was prized by ancient Romans and Egyptians for its alleged powers of beautification, and continues to serve as a major carving stone in China today.
